Calpe on the Costa Blanca, Spain
Calpe is located on the east coast of Spain, between Valencia (122 kilometres) and Alicante (64 kilometres) on the Costa Blanca. Calpe offers 13 kilometres of coastline with 14 beaches and bays, between beaches stretch kilometres of fine sand with quiet bays and coastal sections with rocks and cliffs. A lot of high-rise buildings are being built near the beach, but they are almost uninhabited - except in summer. There are more than 60 housing estates around the old town and the beaches of Calpe.
The town of Calpe, with its 13,000 inhabitants, is an almost perfect mixture of modern small town paired with romantic flair, lots of sun and a great beach. The very pleasant weather in Calpe is among the most pleasant on the entire Costa Blanca, as the town is largely protected from the sometimes strong north winds by its proximity to the mountains.Situated between Altea in the south and Javea in the north, Calpe is known far beyond Spain for its Penon de lFach, a rocky outcrop in the sea. A panoramic view from the top over the bays into the hinterland of the Costa Blanca is an impressive experience. The two churches Iglesia Antigua and the church of the Senora de las Nieves in the centre of Calpe are worth a visit.
Also worth seeing are the ruins of the Roman baths and the old tower (Torreon de la Peca) near the beach.
Calpe offers kilometres of beaches for almost all kinds of water sports. Two magnificent sandy beaches are Cantal Roig beach and Playa Arenal, La Fossa beaches and Gasparet bay.
Neighbouring towns such as Altea, Moraira, Teulada or Benissa additionally offer much worth discovering.
